Arizona is a Great State to Visit

Posted on May 16th, 2008 in arizona by admin

The other day traveling through the Arizona flat land between Phoenix and Tucson, I met someone at a Pilot Truck Stop in Casa Grande coming from Austin, TX and on their way to Oregon for a Horse Show. They asked me briefly so what is in this state anyway. I kind of laughed and I said well have you ever heard of the Grand Canyon?

They smiled and said; Oh Yah. I said well there is lots to see in Arizona. They said; Yah but what about Southern Arizona, what is in this part? I told him he was practically in Central Arizona and would be in Phoenix within the hour. But I know Arizona pretty well like most states, as I have Relatives in Winslow AZ. Just traveled by there the other day, I love the Meteor Crater and Museum, bought a magnetized rock by the road side gift shop, now closed; also I met some Cal Tech NASA guys there testing the rover once, very cool the tele-robotic systems.

Have been to almost every city in AZ. Lots of Southern Cities; Yuma, my brother is a USMC Aviator, had training there, Bisbee Mine Tour in the Yellow Carts, Tucson (I like Bookmans), Sierra Vista and Douglas too. Have friends in Oro Valley and a former franchisee of our company before I retired. I some more friends along the Saguaro National Forest too.

I have traveled 70 from Globe all the way thru NM and then to Silver City. Also traveled up the 77 from the Biosphere to Globe. I have been everywhere in the US, well North America too. I like AZ, the mountains are cool; as there is no “Noise or Light” pollution and such. But some spots are too dry due to weather and droughts, I worry about that and have driven thru areas months after large fires and that is a bummer.

Yes indeed I know Arizona and there is a lot to see and do there and I reflected back to the gentleman who had just driven over through god knows how many miles of desert between where we stood at the Truck stop and Texas and thought, boy he sure does not know what he is missing does he? Consider all this in 2006.

Arizona Exposition and State Fair

Posted on May 15th, 2008 in arizona by admin

Phoenix, Arizona comes alive in mid-October as its State Fair starts the three weeks of exposition and entertainment that young and old anticipate throughout the year. With 122 years of history under its belt, the Arizona Exposition and State Fair has developed into one of the country’s more evolved venues.

This state fair highlights the cultural contributions of Mexican and Native American ethnic groups as well the contemporary ranchers of the region. Phoenix itself is a bustling metropolitan area of 3.9 million people and the fair is an event of the caliber one would expect in a sizable city.

Arizona shares a 389-mile border with Mexico and Phoenix is truly an international city. Its exposition and state fair offer an all Native American Rodeo, barrel horse racing, figure eight auto racing and the midway carnival atmosphere, complete with rides and food that attract many of its visitors.

The grandstand first-come-first-serve seating is free with fair admission to the long list of mostly country western acts. Reserve seating is priced according to individual performers’ fees. A demolition derby and arm wrestling championship are among the less than professional entertainment. Detailed 4-H judging categories and community categories such as “best quilt” offer good natured competition.

Phoenix is an easily accessed destination with its Sky Harbor International Airport hosting 23 airlines. Hotel and motels representing most major chains are within a few miles of the airport. Major highways lead to this desert city for those who prefer to see America en route. Rental cars, taxi, limousine and bus services are available from most locations within the city.

This city has the dubious distinction of having more days over 100 degrees per year than any other major metropolitan area in the United States. Pack accordingly and don’t be caught without sunscreen or you may end up looking like a baked potato.

Discover the Phoenix You Never Knew Existed

Posted on May 14th, 2008 in arizona by admin

Smack dab in the middle of the state of Arizona is a city known for many things; it’s busy and bustling, filled with diverse activities, and as a vacation destination, it’s hot in more ways than one. If you’ve yet to visit the Phoenix, also known as the “Valley of the Sun,” then consider gracing it with your presence sometime soon in order to see what all the fuss is about.

Central Arizona may evoke images of cacti and vast stretches of dry sand, but even though this is the site of the Sonoran Desert it’s not at all desolate. Dams have made it possible for recreational lakes to exist, and a few sets of mountains give the landscape a beautiful touch. Take a look around you; each direction will reveal a different, spectacular view that is surely unlike any other you currently have access to.

Most Phoenicians love, or at least have grown accustomed to, very hot weather. There’s no use in pretending otherwise that this city is pretty darn steamy (especially in the summer), so if you’re more of a cool, rainy day person then Phoenix may not be right for you. If you crave the feeling of warmth and sun year-round, however, this is the place to be.

Winter in Phoenix attracts golfers and cold-haters by the hundreds and allows for outdoor activities to go on pretty much unimpeded. Frost is rare and snow is rarer, meaning that Northerners will be happy to escape the cruel breath of Mother Nature for a while when they head to the Southwest. From professional sports teams to amusement parks, this city knows how to take advantage of what they have. Vacations are all about escape, and making your way to a climate that permits fun and frivolity all year round will enhance the much-sought after getaway that you certainly deserve.

For example, where else is it possible to see a Desert Botanical Garden filled with exotic flora and fauna before stopping by a historic mansion known as Mystery Castle, then finishing off the afternoon with a game of tennis and a delicious meal at a gourmet restaurant? The next day, add some culture to the mix by viewing modern and classic art, ride a rollercoaster and go for a hike on Camelback Mountain. A movie or a play will entertain you in the evening, and then a nightcap at a happening new club will ensure that wonderful feeling of stress-free contentment is achieved.

Phoenix’s imposing size and ever-increasing edge as a mecca for tourists means that a number of special events can be enjoyed throughout the year. Thus, in addition to shopping, spa-going and golfing, be sure to save room in your schedule for a concert, a farmer’s market, a wine tasting or an art show. There’s always something going on in this desert oasis, so check the calendar to discover something that will take things up another notch.

Family fun and choices will define a trip to Phoenix, or if it’s just you and your significant other, allow yourselves to be whisked away by the warmth and the energy of this haven for harried souls. Breathe deeply (you’ll notice the air feels delightfully different) and be thankful for a break from the rapid pace of daily life.

To truly take advantage of this desert retreat, think about renting a vacation condo or town home. These luxurious, often affordable properties are plentiful in Phoenix and would make a lovely accent to any trip. Patios, kitchen appliances, a washer and dryer plus more than enough space in a modern and convenient setting make for the perfect home base. Explore Phoenix with a light in your eyes and a bounce in your step knowing that you have a cozy place to call your own.

When it’s time for a vacation, it’s time for a vacation. Treat yourself to a good trip (you know you deserve it) and make sure you do it the right way. The vibrant city will distract you from your worries and your Phoenix Vacation Rental will pamper you just the way you like. Start packing your bags, because the moment of your escape has finally arrived.
